Bergen and Passaic County, New Jersey – Sedation Dentistry at Excel Dentistry

Many people have found that sedation dentistry, as practiced in the offices of Mayra Modesto-Garrido, D.D.S., can take the fear and pain out of dental care.  Many people who suffer from dental anxiety delay dental visits even when they know that they need restorative dental treatment, preferring to live with damaged teeth rather than hear the sound of a dental drill or face the prick of an injection. Fortunately, we can help put nervous patients from Bergen County, Passaic County, and all over New Jersey at ease with our sedation dentistry options.  Sedation dentistry allows anxious patients to receive the dental care they need without suffering from excessive panic, and with our laser dentistry services the whir of the dentist's drill can be a thing of the past.

Sedation Dentistry Options

While the term "sedation" leads many people to assume that they will be asleep or unconscious during treatment, in actuality patients from Bergen County, Passaic County, or elsewhere in New Jersey undergoing sedation dentistry treatment at Excel Dentistry are kept awake, but made fully relaxed and calm.  To allow our nervous patients to achieve this state of deep relaxation, we offer the option of either oral conscious sedation or nitrous oxide gas.  Sedation at Excel Dentistry is administered by our doctors, who are fully sedation certified and who will monitor you during all stages of your treatment to ensure your complete safety.

Oral Conscious Sedation

Should you choose oral conscious sedation, you will be given a simple oral sedative that you will take before coming in to either our Glen Rock or Passaic location for treatment.  A friend or family member will be required to drive you to our office and take you home after treatment.  While you will not be asleep during your treatment, you will be in a dreamlike, relaxed state in which you will not experience anxiety, fear, or pain, and afterwards you will likely remember few details of your dental visit.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as "laughing gas," is an extremely safe sedation dentistry alternative often used for patients who do not require the deep relaxation provided by conscious sedation.  If nitrous oxide is found to be appropriate in your case, you will be administered a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen gas, which is simply breathed in, to place you in a pleasant state of numbness and calm.  Because nitrous oxide leaves the body quickly, another person will not be required to transport you to or from your dental appointment.

Candidates for Sedation Dentistry

While sedation is not appropriate for all patients, we can help many people obtain necessary dental treatment with the sedation options offered at our Bergen County and Passaic County, New Jersey offices.  Because sedation dentistry allows patients to reach a fully relaxed state, we can often accomplish several dental visits' worth of treatment, such as placement of porcelain crowns or tooth whitening, in only one appointment, saving busy patients time and trouble.
You may be a candidate for sedation dentistry treatment at Excel Dentistry if you have any of the following:
