It’s a rite of passage for many teens – getting braces; and, of course, getting them off! But the exact timing of when these are necessary isn’t always easy for parents to determine. And it’s understandable to not want to take your kids around to a ton of different professionals for consultations that may or may not be free.
That’s why we wanted to write this post – to help you know when to get braces for yourself, or for your teenage kids.
Generally, your dentist will recommend that you get braces when all of your adult teeth have come in. However, if your adult teeth aren’t all out yet and you still need other work done – like expanding your palate, or treating tongue thrust – then Dr. Mayra Modesto-Garrido may start you on a treatment schedule sooner.
Here at Excel Dentistry in Glen Rock, New Jersey, we’re dedicated to providing our patients with the best service possible. Part of that means ensuring our patients can take care of their orthodontic hardware. That’s why we will take into account the age of a patient before moving forward with braces. You need to be old enough to both be aware of the potential issues that can arise from not caring for braces, and the need to do so.
We know that this process can seem a bit daunting, but we’re here to help you through it all. If you have any questions, or need to schedule an appointment, call us today at 201-652-0400.
